This day may mean many things to many people, and for those that paid the ultimate sacrifice of his day they will be remembered.
With all of the media and all of the focus on the hurricanes that are in Florida today, I ask you to reflect for a moment as a business owner.
What would you do if your business was involved in this storm or the events of 9/11 in New York City.
I encourage you as a business owner to perform the following exercise. It doesn’t have to be today but it wouldn’t hurt.
It’s called a tabletop exercise and as you have a scheduled meeting today do not let others know about it until the following occurs.
And if you like we can assist you with performing it with your staff; your choice.
Table Top Exercise: 1 Level Catastrophe
Have your top managers in the meeting with you and play out the following scenario: Do not let them know this ahead of time!!!
Once everyone is in the room, close the door, and address them as if this was about to play out. You are looking for a plan – NOW
Since we live in the Kentuckiana area, let’s say it’s a tornado and an earthquake simultaneously.
We have eight minutes, to completely evacuate our building and we may not be able to come back to this building for three weeks.
In eight minutes, you’re going to lose complete power
In eight minutes, there will be no water
In eight minutes, there will be no cell service
In eight minutes, you will see 8 people die
In eight minutes, traffic will at a standstill, streets are torn up by the earthquake
In eight minutes, your building will only be 50% standing
In eight minutes, a fire is going to start in your building
In eight minutes, you have some decisions to make, let’s get started
Have your team members write down the 10 things that would be vital for them:
– Saving of lives always come first, just saying
– From a personal perspective, what are you going to do
– For the business perspective, what can you do to save the company
– What will you as a leader need
– What will you do as a group
– What will you do in 9 minutes
– What will you do in 9 hours
– What will you do in 9 days
(give them about three minutes to think of this process)
Next you need to create a must-have list.
A should have list
And a need to have a list
With this newly found information you can now make a plan that your business will survive this type of event.
We here at CyberTek can help with the plan or the exercise, and would look forward to assisting you to make sure that your data/your business process would continue.
Have a great day and remember there are people in Florida who are wishing they had done this before now.
